Boonsboro to use inmate crews for general labor

Boonsboro could begin using inmate work crews for general labor as soon as next Monday after the Boonsboro Town Council voted unanimously Monday to approve an agreement with the Maryland Division of Correction.

The agreement is for the service of two prerelease inmates, Monday through Friday, year-round, at a cost to the town of $12.80 per day, Town Manager Debra Smith said.

The cost includes labor and transportation, Smith said.

The inmates will have to be supervised at all times, and all town employees who might supervise the inmates will need to complete a training session, she said.
