Eastern Correctional Institution Teacher Honored by Local Television
TOWSON, MD (February 28, 2011) – The Division of Correction and the Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services congratulates Eastern Correctional Institution (ECI) teacher Diane King, honored Monday as WMDT’s (Channel 47’s) Teacher Who Makes A Difference for January 2011.
The station surprised her Monday in class with flowers and a plaque. ECI inmates nominated King for the honor, with more than 20 signing a nomination letter they sent to the station. In the letter, inmates said, “Without her, most men here would likely falter, but she keeps us going and gives us goals to shoot for and finally obtain.”
King started teaching at ECI, located in Westover, MD, in 2007. She received her BS at Salisbury State University, and earned her Masters at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, VA. Correctional education teachers are Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation employees.
