TOWSON, MD (April 23, 2012) – Charles Whitley is the recipient of the Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services’ inaugural Excellence in Victim Outreach award. During National Crime Victims’ Rights Week (NCVRW), three people or organizations across the state were chosen for the honor; one from each of DPSCS’ organizational regions.

Whitley is a DPSCS victim’s coordinator. Cheryl Peguese, a DPSCS community supervision field supervisor, nominated Whitley for the Central Region, which includes Baltimore City and Baltimore County. “Many victims including residents in the community have received needed resources that once were not visible. Mr. Whitley also participates in other resource fairs and events that extend past his work hours including weekends,” she wrote.

Mr. Whitley will be honored Wednesday, April 25, 2012 during DPSCS’ annual NCVRW open house, held from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Seton Community Supervision Office, 4750 Mt Hope Drive, Baltimore MD 21215.

The DPSCS Excellence in Victim Outreach Award was created to honor a DPSCS employee, volunteer or partner agency who has made notable contributions in proving effective services to victims of crime, or who has gone above and beyond his or her duties to improve the life of a crime victim.

Congratulations to Mr. Whitley, and thank you for all that you do.
