Data collection methods changed slightly after 2011 to more accurately portray the number of cases handled by Community Supervision Agents.
End of FY Active Cases by County 04 05 06 07 08 09 10 11 12 13  
Data collection parameters for the above charts: SPSS report of all active cases (not past expiration as of the 1st of whatever month the report is run) by case type and supervising jurisdiction (this is determined by the office location). The yellow columns indicate the totals of the two previous columns. Pre-trial (PRE) and commutation (COM) cases equal the “Other” in End of FY Population. Data collection methods changed slightly after 2011 to more accurately portray the number of cases handled by Community Supervision Agents

Probation (PRO): A disposition under which a court defers imposition of a sentence or suspends the sentence and releases an individual under prescribed terms and rules for a specified period of time. Probation Before Judgment (PBJ) is also a type of probation case.

Parole (PAR): An early discretionary, conditional release from criminal imprisonment granted by the Maryland Parole Commission.

Mandatory Supervision (MAN): Release from prison after serving a portion of a sentence less diminution of confinement credits. In Maryland, these individuals are supervised as if they were on Parole.

Probation Case Intake and End of FY Under Supervision 88-98 97-06  
Data collection parameters for the above charts:
  • Probation Case intake (“cases received”) during fiscal year = Total number of new probation cases entered by intake reviewers onto the automated system during the fiscal year.
  • Probation Supervision end of year = Total probation cases under supervision at end of fiscal year. This number is derived from the prior year probation cases under supervision at end of fiscal year, plus the “cases received for supervision”, minus the “cases removed from supervision”.
DDMP Case Intake and End of FY Active Population 88-98 97-06  
Data collection parameters for the above charts:
  • DDMP (Drinking Driver Monitor Program) case intake (“cases received”) during fiscal year = Total number of new DDMP cases entered by intake reviewers onto the automated system during the fiscal year.
  • DDMP active end of year = Estimated number of DDMP active cases (being actively supervised) at end of fiscal year, i.e., excludes all statuses such as “non-active unavailable” other than “active”.

Data collection parameters for the above charts:
  • Probation active population end of FY = Estimated number of offenders with active probation cases (being actively supervised) at end of fiscal year, i.e., excludes offenders in “non-active unavailable” and statuses other than “active”
  • DDMP active end of year = Estimated number of DDMP active cases (being actively supervised) at end of fiscal year, i.e., excludes all statuses such as “non-active unavailable” other than “active”.

Data collection parameters for the above charts:
  • Parole Case intake (“cases received”) during fiscal year = Total number of new parole cases entered by intake reviewers onto the automated system during the fiscal year.
  • Mandatory Supervision Case intake (“cases received”) during fiscal year = Total number of new mandatory supervision cases entered by intake reviewers onto the automated system during the fiscal year.

Data collection parameters for the above charts:
  • Parole active population end of FY = Estimated number of offenders with active parole cases (being actively supervised) at end of fiscal year, i.e., excludes offenders in all statuses such as “non-active unavailable” other than “active”.
  • Mandatory Supervision active population end of FY = Estimated number of offenders with active mandatory supervision cases (being actively supervised) at end of fiscal year, i.e., excludes offenders in all statuses such as “non-active unavailable” other than “active”.
