Inmate Grievance Office

The Inmate Grievance Office has jurisdiction over all incarcerated individual grievance complaints against Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services officials and employees. Those grievances that are not administratively dismissed for procedural or substantive reasons are scheduled for hearings in front of an administrative law judge at the Office of Administrative Hearings.

The hearings are held in correctional institutions throughout the state. Most hearings are conducted by videoconferencing. The presiding judges issue their decisions in writing. If a judge concludes that a grievance has merit the written decision is forwarded to the secretary of the department for review and a final administrative decision.
