Office of the Inspector General

The Office of Inspector General (OIG) is a division of the Office of the Secretary within the Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services. It was first authorized in May 1987 as the Division of Audits and Compliance. In 1993, the Division was reorganized as the Office of the Inspector General, and was placed under the Office of the Secretary, reporting directly to the Secretary. It is currently reporting to the Department's Deputy Secretary of Administration.

The OIG is responsible for conducting a full range of independent and objective audits, management analyses, and investigations. These independent and objective assessments help to safeguard and efficiently manage the Department's resources, programs and business operations by preventing and detecting fraud, waste, and abuse, and the mismanagement of fiscal, material, and personnel resources.

The OIG also coordinates the Department's response process for the external audits conducted by the Office of Legislative Audits (OLA), Department of General Services (DGS), and the Office of Program Evaluation and Government Accountability (OPEGA). The Office also provides technical/advisory services to its various customers. The Office's efforts help the Department achieve the highest standards of effective management, accountability, and professional integrity.
