Becoming a correctional officer with the Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services is an honorable profession. Thank you for your consideration!
If you answer yes to all of the following questions, you meet the minimum qualifications to become a correctional officer.- Are you at least 21 years of age or received an honorable discharge from any branch of the U.S. military? (You need to be 21 at the time of hire. It is OK to apply if you will turn 21 in the next 9 months.)
- Military Veterans with an honorable discharge are eligible to apply at the age of 18 for the position of Correctional Officer I.
- Do you possess a high school diploma or a GED recognized by the State Board of Education?
- Are you a U.S. citizen or resident alien?
