Office of Equal Employment Opportunity (OEEO) - Policy Statement

It is the policy of the Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services to promote a work environment conducive to fairness, free from sexual harassment, intimidation or coercion of any kind. Employment discrimination and harassment, which includes sexual harassment, are prohibited by Federal and State law and will not be tolerated. The Department's Office of Equal Employment Opportunity is charged with implementing, monitoring and enforcing the non-discrimination Federal and State laws and regulations across the Department, to include the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).  The ADA is a civil rights law that prohibits discrimination against individuals with disabilities.  The purpose of the law is to ensure that people with disabilities have the same rights and opportunities as everyone else.

In accordance with the Governor's Code of Fair Employment Practices, the Department is committed to an effective equal opportunity and affirmative action program. This program affords all employees, and applicants for employment, an equal opportunity in every aspect of employment without regard to race, sex (gender), age, religion, national origin, color, creed, sexual orientation, physical or mental disability, ancestry, genetic information, marital status, gender identity and expression, retaliation for previously participating in a discrimination complaint process, or political affiliation. There will be zero tolerance for any kind of employment discrimination or sexual harassment. Strict sanctions, up to and including termination, will be imposed on anyone found in violation of this policy.

Pursuant to the State of Maryland's Bullying in the Workplace policy bullying will not be tolerated. Where it is found to have occurred, it will be dealt with in an appropriate manner, which may include the imposition of disciplinary action, up to and including termination from state service.
