[HAGERSTOWN, MARYLAND] - The Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services (DPSCS) and the Maryland Department of Labor reaffirm their commitment to empowering incarcerated individuals through education and vocational training. DPSCS is dedicated to ensuring that every person entering our facilities without a diploma has the opportunity to earn one.

Roxbury Correctional Institution (RCI) in Hagerstown stands as a testament to this commitment, where six individuals achieved their long-awaited GEDs, while 14 others proudly graduated with certificates in barber styling, computer technology, masonry, and warehousing and distribution.

The presence of loved ones at the ceremony added an emotional touch to this remarkable achievement, with leaders from both DPSCS and the Department of Labor in attendance to mark this significant milestone.

Despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, RCI has recently witnessed the successful completion of GED and occupational programs by nearly 90 returning citizens, highlighting the resilience and determination of those seeking a second chance.

The Department remains steadfast in its collaboration with various agencies to expand the current offering of more than 20 trades and occupational programs, further enhancing opportunities for rehabilitation and reintegration.

DPSCS extends its heartfelt congratulations to RCI's graduates on this momentous accomplishment and expresses its gratitude to the dedicated staff who played an indispensable role in making this achievement possible.
